MANAWATU GORGE
RAILWAY TESTED BEFORE USE

Palmerston North, November 27.
In order to test the safety of the railway line in the Manawatu Gorge following the clearance of the latest large slips, a goods train was dispatched from Palmerston this afternoon on a journey to Woodville. The removal of the line to allow of blasting operations and its subsequent relaying had necessitated a severe test so as to ensure the safety of passengers. Twentyfive wagons loaded to the wveight of 200 tons were taken through the gorge. Advice was received in Palmerston North an hour later that the train had made the trip safely and reached Woodville on schedule time. The ordinary train schedule will now be resumed as from Monday.
