LEGION OF FRONTIERSMEN

The monthly meeting of “I” squadron headquarters of the Legion of Frontiersmen was held in the U.S.A, rooms, Brandon Street, on November 15. Liout.Colonel 11. St. J. Beere was in the chair. Eleven new members were admitted, thus bringing the squadron strength up to 55.

Reports on the progress of tho Wellington and Lower Hutt, “Waiwhetu group ’ were received. Troop Leader Taylor reported having held two meetings at his residence, but a room had been obtained at the Toyn Hall, Lower Hutt, and future meetings would be hold there.

It was decided that headquarters hold an open night on the next meeting night, December 20, and that each frontiersman bring a friend. After the business was concluded an interestin'; lecturette on wireless as used by the army and navy during the war was given by Mr. Roberts of the New Zealand Broadcasting Company. The interest taken in this was shown by tlie number of questions asked flic speaker. A comment was made by Mr. Roberts of tlie discipline in the French and English armies. He stated that he was sent to a certain front held by the French troops to experiment with certain apparatus. He noticed how the French wandered about anyhow without saluting officers and with no uniform dress, but one day he had occasion to ask that no telephones or other instruments be used and not a sound was heard. Shortly after nn English regiment took over tho same request was made of them. He said the English were very steady on parade, polished their buttons nicely, sainted their offi enrs smartlv but they could not leave their tolcnhones alone, thereby lo«intr a lot of valuable information of the German movements Mr. Roberts was heartily _ thanked and invited to pay another visit
