COUNCILLOR BENNETT AND THE CIVIC LEAGUE
Sir,—Councillor IL D. Bonnett must feel extremelv flattered with the amount of attention he is receiving at the hands of correspondents. nnonvmous and otherwise. The letter from “Khandallah” appearing in your to-day’a issue is typical
of the criticism which makes the successful business man reluctant to offer his services to public bodies, and defeats the very object which your correspondent would lead us to believe he has at heart. One might well ask what "Khandallah" has personally done—without monetary reward —to assist his fellow citizen? In giving credit where credit is due, it is generally conceded that Councillor Bennett is a man of out. standing ability; possesses a knowledge second to none of municipal affairs; devotes as much (probably more) time and attention to city matters as any of his colleagues; and (hat during the few months he has been chairman of the Works Committee he has accomplished, as much as any of his predecessors. In. fact many citizens had hoped that he would have been an aspirant fqr ■ the mayoralty. I have no axe to grind, but can assure Councillor Bennett that a very large number of ratepayers fully appreciate his valuable services rendered to the city and that their appreciation will be shown at the elections in April next by loyally supporting him. . irrespective of leagues or cliques—l am, etc., OBSERVER.
