MAN DISTURBS COURT

MADE NOISE WITH HIS FEET MAGISTRATE PLACES HIM IN CUSTODY A wharf labourer, who shuffled out very noisily indeed from the public portion of the Magistrate’s Court yesterday, shuffled in again as quiet as a mouse a few moments later, when he was escorted by the orderly and brought before Mr. W. G. Riddell, S.M., who severely rebuked him for disturbing the peace of the Court. “If you want to make that noise with your feet, don’t come here and do it,” advised His Worship, eyeing the culprit severely. “This is no place to create a disturbance in. If you want to come and stay in Court to listen to what is going bn, do so in a proper fashion, otherwise you will find yourself somewhere where you might not want to be.”

“It wasn’t my fault, sir,” replied the man. “I can Assure you, sir, I did not make a noise with my feet.” “He did, sir,” said Constable Warren, who had brought the man in from the congested corridor outside. "I had tnv eye on him all the time.” Another' constable also stated that the man before the Court was the offender. “Sit down,” sternly commanded the Magistrate, “and consider yourself in custody for the present. I will take the word of the two constables before yours.” After the offender had remained seated twitching his cap nervously . for about an hour, the Magistrate told him he could go. “I see you have only been in tins country for three years,” remarked His Worship. “Remember, if you come to Court again, don’t make a disturbance. I will let you go now, but understand von could be fined or imprisoned for doing what you have done.”

The offender left the Court on tiptoes, walking out with very careful tread indeed.
