SHEFFIELD SHIELD MATCH

QUEENSLAND V. NEW SOUTH WALES.

(Rec. November 27, 1.15 a.m.)

Brisbane, November 26.

For the first time in the Sheffield Shield competition Queensland participated, and commenced a match against New South Wales to-day in fine, dull weather, and on a good wicket. New South Wales in the first innings made 280 (Phillips 39, Kippax 127, Scanes 38). Mayes took four wickets for 52 runs, G. Oxenham four for 56. Queensland have three wickets down for 57 (L. Oxenham 34).

Kippax batted brilliantly, and gave a polished exhibition, scormg freely all round the wicket. He never appeared troubled by the bowling, which had the remainder of the team in difficulties.
