“BRITISH MADE”

APPLICATION OF TERM

Speaking at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Association of British Manufacturers and Agents, the president, Mr. G. H. Scott, voiced the opinion that the country of origin should be marked more plainly on importations and the use of the word “British” should be restricted. “In a country where the sentiment of the people is’so well defined favouring British manufactures,” said Mr. Scott “it is an obvious duty of the Government to assist these people to discover the British manufactures among the articles offered them for sale. This can only be put into effect bv insisting upon the country of origin being marked upon all importations. The use of the word ‘British’ should be confined entirely to the British Isles. There are people and traders throughout New Zealand who are quite prepared to _ buy foreign goods provided they are unmarked.”
