Toxton, November 26.
Messrs. T. Proctor and H. Taylor have been selected as representatives in the northern cricket team for Saturday.
The results of Wednesday’s thirtyminute croquet tournament played on the local green, were as follow: Mesdames Moore, Perreau, McMurray, Downes, and Bryant 3J, Mesdames Owen, Barr and Woods 21. The handicap singles matches resulted as follow ; Mrs. McMurray (SJ) defeated Mrs. Moore (6j), 26-12. In a ladder match, Mrs. McMurray defeated Mrs. Wood, 26-20. Mr. Hannah, inspecting engineer of the Public Works Department, and Highways Board, made an inspection of the highways in the Manawatu County on Wednesday, and also inspected the Shannon punt. Mr. Hannah was accompanied by Messrs. W. E. Barber (chairman of the Manawatu County Council), A. K. Drew (clerk) and Hickford (engineer). The death took place at the Palmerston North Hospital on Tuesday of John Edward Tolliuson, aged 73 years. Deceased had been in ill-health for some time prior to entering the hospital, and resided with his daughter, Mrs. J. Coley, of Foxton. He leaves a familv of five sons (Messrs. Edward, Arthur, Albert, Ernest, and Alfred) and two daughters (Mrs. J. Coley and Miss M. Tollinson) all of Foxton. Deceased’s wife predeceased him about three years ago. The interment took place 'in the Foxton Cemetery on Thursday, the Rev. S. Perymau officiating at the graveside. George Hunter, aged 72, an old age pensioner, died suddenly at Whirokino vesterday morning. The cause of the death was senile decav. Deceased, for many vears, lived a nomadic life, and was well known on the roads throughout this district. The interment took place in the local cemtery on Thursday. Last Wednesday the Foxton Amateur Cycling Club held three road races. The results are as follows Eight Mile (17 starters) : D. . Latherley (90sec.) 1, Marshall (120 sec. 2, G. Colev (80sec.) 3, E. Robinson (OOsec.) 4; won bv 100 vards, 20 yards between second and third, fourth man a length awav; time, 27min. 46sec. Two Mile (19 ’starters) : E. Robinson (30sec.) 1, D. Satherley (SOsec.) 2, Simpson (30sec.) 3, J. Gupwell 4; won by a length, second and third almost tie,' and fourth man a length away. Ladies Race, 1 mile (7 starters): Miss M. Vertongen (ssec.) 1, Miss O. Andrews (scr) 2, Miss Marshall (scr.) 3; won easilv, amidst loud applause The events were the last for a silver cup which was won by D. Knott, with 20 points. G. Aldridge (21 points) and D Satherlev (10 points) won gold medals, and G. Coley (10 points) a silver "The Foxton branch of the Presbyterian Women’s Mission Union met tn the Presbvterian Church on Tuesday afternoon, Mrs. Downes presiding. The secretary (Miss Duncan) -ead a tetter from Sister Heather. Mrs. Satherley (delegate to the P.W.M.U. conference at Wellington) then read a concise and most interesting report of the meetings, et The Foxton Horticultural Society held its summer show’ on Tuesday. 1 lie exhibition was opened by Mr. J. Linklater, M.P Miss Ross displayed the championship rose, and points prizes were won as followßoses, Miss Hughes; sweet peas, Mrs. McMurray, ent blooms, Mrs. Hughes; fruit, vegetables and pot plants, Mrs. J. Evans; cookerv, Mrs. Woods; decorative, Mrs. P. Easton.
