Mrs. John McPherson, Dunedin, is the guest of Mrs. T. Neave, Wadestown. * Mrs. E. Christie, Wellington, is visiting Auckland. Mr. and Mrs. H. T. Merritt have left Auckland on a visit to Wellington and Christchurch. Mrs. T. Young is the guest of Miss Horton, Remuera Road, Auckland. Mr. and Mrs. F. M. Clarke are visiting Christchurch. Miss Lockhart, England, arrived from Hawke’s Bay yesterday, and is proceeding' by the Marama to Sydney, en route to Johannesburg. Seven women attended the recent Assembly of the League of Nations as substitute delegates or experts, namely: Miss Forchhammer, of Denmark, Dr. Gertrud Baumer (Germany), Dame Edith Lyttelton (Great Britain), Miss Freda Bage (Australia), Mrs. Larsen Jabn (Norwav), Mrs. Wicksell (Sweden), and Mdlle Vacaresco (Rumania). Mrs. Hamilton, Nelson, is visiting her daughter, Mrs. E. W. Rudman, Karori. Mrs. Herbert Kirkcaldic is visiting Wanganui. Miss Cable is on a visit to Masterton. Mrs. B. Wood is going to Christchurch shortly, having taken a house in Rolleston Avenue for a few months. The Wellington Red Cross Society has secured Miss Doreen McCubbiu as its Queen for the Grand Naval and Military Tattoo. Miss McCubbiu is returning from Auckland on Monday. At the invitation of Mrs. James Hislop a number of ladies met at her residence, Wilton Road, to discuss forming • a branch of the League of Mothers in Wadestown. Mrs. Hislop gave a short address, pointing out the aims of the league. A paper, an “Appeal to Mothers,” was read, and after some discussion those present formed themselves into a committee pro tern, with Mrs. Hislop as president and Mrs Johnson secretary, to take steps to secure a suitable hall for further meetings, and it is hoped to hold the first meeting early in February, due notice of which ■will be given, when the officers and committee will be appointed and members enrolled A dainty afternoon . tea was served by the hostess, who was asthe'Misses Bennett, Bell, and Wilson. Among those present were Mesdames Paviour-Smith, Jacka, Turner, Bell, Fearn, Thomson. The thanks of those present are due to Mrs Hislop for her kind hospitality.
The new jumper suit is indeed a thing of beautv. Miss Samson, Customhouse Quay, has imported some particularly smart models. _ A suit in reseda green crepe de chine has fine pleatings on jumper and skirt. The • pockets show touches of gold embroiderv Saxe blue crepe de chine is chosen for another suit, which has all-ovet embroiderv in self-colouring and wood rose. The skirt is pleated, and a narrow tie finishes the . neck line Heavv ivory crepe de chine is used for a suit which has a tailored appearance. The skirt has groups of pleatings, and the jumper has a roll V neck and self buttons.—Advt.
Attention is called to an advertisement in this issue announcing that a garden party in aid of the funds of the Wellington Central Church Primary School will be held next Tuesday afternoon at Mrs. T. Hislop’s residence, 33 Salamanca Road. There will be stalls of various kinds and afternoon tea will be provided. The speakers will be the Rev. B. R. White (organising secretary) and Mr. R. L. Button.
Miss Keddie, matron of Southland Hospital, and formerly of Oamaru, has been appointed matron of the Waikato Hospital, Hamilton.
Mr. and Mrs. John White, Blenheim, have returned from Dunedin, where they have been attending the funeral of their late son, the Rev. Harold White.
Th# members of the Wellington Women's Auxiliary of the N.Z.P.R. League are arranging a social gathering to be held in the Pioneer Club on Tuesday next by way of a welcome home to their president, Mrs C. W. Earle. A musical programme has been arranged and refreshments are being provided. It is expected that one or two Cabinet Ministers will be present, and a pleasant evening is anticipated. A week from to-day the Plunket Society will make its annual appeal to all parents in Wellington who have been helped, and to all sympathisers with the work. A committee has been very busy for months preparing for the annual Christmas party' in the Town Hall, and indications are for a bigger success than ever. No pains have been spared to make it a truly enjoyable afternoon. Many leading artists in Wellington are helping with the entertaining, and, for the first time here, children’s community singing of nursery rhymes will be held, led by Mr. Albert Russell. Parents are asked to watch the paper later in the week and see which rhymes are to be sung, so that they may teach them to their children, who will all be able to join happily. Miss Helen Gard’ner and Miss Kathleen O’Brien are arranging original and artistic little performances Father Christmas will be in attendance, with his tree well filled with wonderful gifts. Boys are to be well catered for. their toys having been specially imported from England; and girls are just as well looked after, and will find among their treasures many wonderful dolls, ranging from Plunket babies to lovely ladies in silks and satins.
