AMATEUR ATHLETICS
■TO-DAY'S MEETING. The Wellington Amateur Athletia Club’s sports meeting on the Basin Reserve to-day is expected .to be one of tho finest held in the Dominion. There ■are many attractions, and some of tho best athletes in New-Zealand will be in action. Much interest will be taken in the cycle road race to Quin’s Post and back, a distance of 42 miles. The start and finish' will take place at the Basin Reserve. Among the competitors are cyclists from. other centres, including Grose and Day. of Canterbury, who both hold New Zealand track championships, and T. Oaklev (Wairarapa). who will be making his first appearance looally on the road. These men are on the scratch mark with J. Carswell, the young AVeliington rider. While the cyclists are on the road, spectators at the Basin Reserve will have plenty to interest them. A special feature will be the contests between the Gisborne and AVollington lady athletes, and the primary and secondary school competitions for the Blundell Cups. The ladies’ relay race for the Eteveneaux Cup should be well worth seeing. F. S. Ramson (Wellington College) and R. Leech (St. Patrick’s College) will meet for the first time over 440 yards. These two boys put up great performances at the recent secondary school championships. E. G. Sutherland, who recently returned from overseas, will be seen in action. The handicap events have drawn large entries, and in the open sprint C. H. Jenkins (Wellington) and 0. Paltndge, the Poverty Bav champion, will be among the starters.
