EXTRAORDINARY PETITION FOR DIVORCE
AGED COUPLE WISH TO MARRY AGAIN. Auckland, November 25. A most extraordinary petition for divorce that brought with it a reminiscence of early Auckland, when divorces were few and far between, came before Mr. Justice Adams in the Supreme Court. The petitioner, Charlotte Whitehead, was 76 years of age, and respondent, Loadhani Whitehead, a man of about HO years of ago. The ground for divorce was given as separation, and that extended over a period of 58 years. The parties were married on July 10, 1867, but their relations were not cordial, and in June of the following year they agreed to separate. Respondent, stated petitioner, would not keep her, and he expressed a wish that they live apart. There was one child of the marriage. Petitioner’s counsel said the reason for divorce was that the parties wished Io marry again for Ihe sake of their other children. . . His Honour granted a decree nisi, to be moved absolute in threo months.
