A MASONIC BALL

The various lodges of Free Masons all over New Zealand have been taking part in the Grand Lodge Communication, which is held this year in Wellington. Last evening a Masonic ball in connection with this was given in the Town Hall, made gay for the occasion with decorations of coloured streamers of orange and blue, with a pretty, floral arrangement in purple and heliotrope at intervals depending from the gallery, and a screen behind the orchestra on the stage, also of purple and heliotrope, in alternate stripes. At the opposite end of the large hall was a bouffet for cool drinks and claret-cup under the direction of Mrs. Preston and Mrs. Parton, while supper was served in the Concert Chamber, where the decorations were of flags with gladioli and icabicus on the tables. Supper was in charge of Mr. Dustin. His Excellency the Governor-General (Sir Charles Fergusson), Grand Master, attended, accompanied by Captain Boyle. Others present were:—Mr. Russell, Deputy-Grand Master, and Mrs. Russell, the latter in rose georgette over silver with touches of blue; Mr. and Mrs. Preston, the latter in black beaded georgette; Mr. and Mrs. Parton, the latter in black with iridescent sequins; Mr. Teagle, Provincial Grand Master, and 'Mrs. Teagle in fuschia beaded georgette; Mr. J. J. Dougall (Christchurch), P.G.M.; Mr. Bingham, P.G.M., and Mrs. Bingham (Christchurch), the latter in blue floral ninon; Mr. Hurly, grand fiirector of ceremonies, and Mrs. Hurly; Colonel Mitchell; Colonel Barclay, grand secretary, and Mrs. Barclay, who have come from Auckland and will be in Wellington for the next two years; Mr. and Mrs. Dickenson; Mr. and Mrs. Perry; Madame Bligh; Mr. Toogood; Mr. and Mrs. Whiteside, Christchurch; Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Thompson, Napier; Mrs. Clarke; Mr. and Mrs. Haywood; Mr. and Mrs. A. Jdckson; Mr. and Mrs. H. Hatch; Mr. George and Miss George; Mr. Watt; Mr. and Mrs. McGowan; Mr. Leed and Miss Leed; Mr. and Mrs. Dreaver; Mr. Cheyne and Miss Cheyne; Mr. Lischner, Dunedin; Mr. Watt, Dunedin; Mr. and Mrs. McDiarmid, Hamilton; Mr. Harold, Nelson; Mr. T. U. Wells, Auckland; Dr. and Mrs. Redman, Blenheim; and very many more. /
