THEFT OF GOVERNMENT MONEY
YOUNG MAN REMANDED FOR SENTENCE. Before Mr. E. Page, S.M.. in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday. Kenneth Guy (aged IS), admitted the theft of stamps, money and postal notes to the total value of 4120 ISs. Gd., the property of the Government. Cliief-Detective Ward stated that accused was employed at a salary of 412 4s in the Department of Agriculture from January to November last year, when lie committed the thefts from letters sent in containing the articles mentioned as subscriptions to a journal published by the department. Tn November, Guv disappeared nnd went to work on a dairy farm in Christchurch, where he
committed theft involving a sum of £2t. For that offence he appeared before the Court and was pl&cea on probation for two years. It seemed that accused was the sort of youth who was very easily led astray. His mother attributed hie downfall to the company he kept. Accused was remanded until Tuesday next for sentence, pending a report from Mr. T. P. Mills, the chief probation officer. , , A charge of stealing 6s. in postal ; notes from the Department of Agriculture was withdrawn by leave of the Court. A CORRECTION. [ln a report, telegraph \1 from Christchurch on Monday, dealing with the above case, and in which a remand to Wellington was granted, the chaise was incorrectly given as being against “Keith Oeary alias Kenneth Guy.” . We regret the mistake, made in the ’ names, which apparently arose through an error in the charge sheet in the Christchurch Court.!
