A DISTRESS CALL
YACHT ALLEGED TO BE IN TROUBLE.
Shortly after 7 o’clock last night a telephone message was received at the Wharf Tolls Office to the effect that a yacht was on the rocks at Somes Island. The tug Arahini immediately put out, in charge of Captain J. Spence, deputy-harbourmaster, . and with two policemen on board. Tho party searched all over Somes Island, and interviewed tho lighfkoeper, and then proceeded to Leper Island, which they explored as best they could with a single torch, while they cooeed lustily for answering sounds of life. But no signs of distressed yachtsmen could be found, and when Captain Spence returned to Queen's Wharf about 10.30 at night, he was of the opinion that tho telephone message was probably a hoax.
