A WELCOME AND A FAREWELL

On Thursday evening last a dinner was given by Electrolux, Ltd., at the Empire Hotel, for the purpose of welcoming Mr. Sten Aurell, one of the directors from Sweden, and farewelling Air. HarryJackson (late New Zealand manager), who has been transferred to Sydney to take charge of the Australian organisation. There were present about thirty of the New Zealand head office executive and sales staff and branch managers from all over the country. Toasts honoured were "The King,” "The King of Sweden,” "Electrolux Headquarters and Officers," "Our Guest” (Air. Sten Aurell), “Branch Managers," "Our Wives," “Our Late Alanager” (Mr. Harry Jackson). Musical items were rendered by Air. Godier and party and Air. J. Hunt. Mr. Aurell was presented with an inkstand of inlaid New Zealand woods mounted with greenstone and surmounted with silver fittings and kiwis. The inkwell top was a standing figure of a Alaori chief in full dress. Later in the evening Mr. H. Jackson was the recipient of a chiming clock in token of the esteem in which he is held by the New Zealand organisation. He was also handed a solid leather suitcase for Airs. Jackson. In the course of a farewell speech, .Mr. Jackson expressed his regret at having to leave such a loyal and energetic band of colleagues, but he felt sure that everyone he was leaving behind would keep his shoulder to the wheel in the great work that was being carried out by Electrolux. During the evening a number of community songs were rendered, the words dealing with various phases of the organisation’s activities and set to the tune of well-known songs, and an enjoyable evening was brought to a close by the singing of “Auld Lang Syne.”
