0 VISITOR’S PRESENT TO CHRISTCHURCH HOSPITAL. Dominion Special. Christchurch, November 24. "He is a sportsman of the right type,” said Mr. W. E. Leadley when a cheque for. £52 10s. was forwarded by Messrs. Wright, Stephenson and Co. to the meeting of the North Canterbury Hospital Board to-day. The money represented the proceeds from the sale of a special merino ram of the Roonoke Stud owned bv Mr. Otway R. Falkiner, of Urana, New South Wales. Mr. Falkiner, a well-known Australian sportsman and *fud sheep breeder, and a principal in the firm of Messrs. F. S. Falkiner and Sons, owners of the well-known Boonoke Merino Stud, visited Christchurch last week in connection with the auctioning of some of the firm’s merino rams, and during tho sale gave instructions that one of the rams be auctioned on behalf of the Christchurch Hospital. "I know you will all be with me in passing a vote of thanks to Mr. Falkiner.” said tho chairman (Mr. H. J. Otley), "especially in view of his having been a visitor. Yon know- the position in New Soutji Wales. The hospitals there have to’ beg for every penny they get, and it is men tike Mr. Falkiner who have to subscribe very’ heavily to them." Mr. A. T. Smith added: "I'm sorry he didn't win the Melbourne Cup. He came third."
