Mr. K. Luke (acting city engineer) stated yesterday that the paving workon the section of the main road between Lower Hutt and Taita would be commenced to-day. Work on Jackson Street, Petone, has been completed, and paving is now proceeding in Upper Vivian Street. Island Bay has been finished, and tlie men are now at work in Berhampore.
Mr. John Moore, formerly an art student at the Wellington Technical College, recently held an exhibition of his sketches in London, where his work received favourable commendation.
