'At the Feilding .municipal abattoirs recently an official inspection was made pf the recently-installed new machinery tn enable efficient and speedy handling of pigs (states an exchange). The principal work in the preparing of carcases has to do-with the removing of hair, and the new machinery, an elaborate affair known as the “dehairer," handles the pigs from the moment they are slaughtered until the time they are on the hooks readv for dressing. As many as 120 to 130 are dealt with in an hour. Remarkable support has been accorded the farmers’ co-operative marketing organisation in a scheme for the development of the overseas trade in pork and bacon. The headquarters are at Feilding, and all the work entailed is carried out in conjunction with the Feilding municipal abattoirs. Other facilities besides that mentioned made an approximate expenditure of £lOOO. Tt is expected that between 20,00 and 25,000 pigs will be handled in Feilding during the coining season.
