FIRES

OUTBREAKS IN NAIRN STREET AND KENT TERRACE.

The Central Fire Brigade received a call at 11.9 o’clock on Tuesday night to 50 Nairn Street, where the washhouse of a six-roomed wood and iron two-story dwelling, owned by Mr. George Fitchett, and occupied by Mrs. Emilv Kellv, was found to be ablaze. The outbreak was quickly suppressed. The fire is surmised to have been caused by a light being thrown down. The house was insured in the Alliance office, while there was a cover on the contents of £l9O in the Atlas office.

Another call was received by the Central Brigade at 12.35 p.m. yesterday, this time to 50 Kent Terrace, where an outbreak of fire was found to have occurerd in a bathroom on the second floor of a two-story shop and dwelling constructed of wood and iron, which was owned by Mrs. Wilhelmina Williamson, and occupied by Mr. Arthur Thomas Wales, a butcher. The outbreak was soon suppressed, though the bathroom was slightly damaged by fire and cutting away. The building was covered by a policy with the New Zealand Insurance Company for £925, while the contents were insured for £250 in the Ocean office.
