FRENCH WOOL BUYERS COMPLAIN
0 ALLEGED PETTY ANNOYANCE. Dominion Special. Wanganui, November 23. French wool buyers are not in love with the methods of the New Zealand Government. One stated to-day that they had been subject to petty annoyance on landing from Australia, where they had been staying during the off season, by being asked t«j band out £lO before being allowed to land here. While recognising that the money would be returned upon leaving the country within six months, they maintained that the time limit was too short, as some of them wanted to remain longer to buy wool privately after the close of the sales. Income tax papers have also been sent to them, with a request that thev interview an income tax inspector in Wellington. To do this would put the buvers to considerable inconvenience, as they were busy men with little time at their disposal. The position was cabled to headquarters in France, and they were advised that they must deduct an amount from the wool they buy equivalent to any income tax charged.
