WAKAKURA DISABLED
PICKED UP BY CRUISER PITTSBURG BEING TOWED TO HONOLULU (Rec. November 21, 5.5 p.m.) Washington, November 20. The Navy Department is advised that the United States cruiser Pittsburg is towing into Honolulu the crippled New Zealand mine-sweeper Wakakura, which was picked up in rough seas on Friday afternoon The Wakakura cn route from San Francisco to Honolulu, was sighted in trouble, with part of her machinery broken. The Pittsburg which was bound for Manila, rounded to in the storm and sent a boat to take off the machinist and the broken part While the cruiser’s mechanics sought to repair this part the seas grew wilder, and the Pittsburg’s commander decided finallv to take the Wakakura in to.w. The report stated that the time of reaching Honolulu depended on the weather conditions.
