RIFLE SHOOTING
PETONE CLUB FIRST SERIES FINAL The Petone Rifle Club fired the final shoot in the first series on Saturday. The ranges were 500 and 600 yards. There was an excellent attendance, nnd some very keen shooting, considering the .jhaugeable light and wind, which at times were puzzling. Some competitors however, by careful observation and good judgment, put their shots well In the centre of the target. At 500 yards H. Mitchell and E. Craggs (a visitor) each totalled.4B, closely followed by V. Broughton. E. Ballinger. T. Warburton, and H. Rule with 47 each. At 600 yards A. Ballinger, the veterarf, showed the wav with 48. a very fine score, A. O’Donnell 46. and R. H. Nicholl, 45, being next. The spoon winners were A Ballinger in A, H. Mitchell in .B, and T. Kershaw, jnr., in C Divisions. The change-over from Mark VI to Mark VII ammunition is at present ffivlng some competitors cau-e for anxiety in the adjustments required. OLD NAVALS CLUB The Old Navals’ Defence Rifle Club continued their programme at Trentham on Saturday, firing for the championship S/R aggregate and second series over ranges 500 and 600 yards. The conditions were good for firing, but only moderate scoring was done by the majority of members. The best gun score was made by R. Sneddon (45 at each range), Deputy-President Goldfinch getting 46 at 600. Rflmn. Kelly gained fop place with his handicap of 6 points. President Standidge’s team won the Martin Challenge Badges with a score of 335 points, Rflmn. Carter’s team being runners-up with 334 points after an exciting finish. The following are the scores :-

Conditions were fairly good, and in view of the use of a small bull’seyo some good scores were registered. H. Myerscough, with 44 at 700. nnd H. KARORI CLUB The Karori Riflo Club fired their second match in the championship series on Saturday, the conditions being 10 shots at 500 and 10 shots at 600 yards. At 500 yards F. Ching and A V. Swanson each scored 49 out of 50, the best score at GOO yards being 48 by R. Caughley, who, with 46 at 500, made top score for the day. C. E.
