Dominion Special. Carterton, November 20. The Wairarapa South County Council has received 38 applications, for the position of county clerk. These have been narrowed down to three, who are being invited to interview personally the council. At a meeting of stewards of the Wairarapa Racing Club the treasurer reported receipts since last meeting to be £197. Accounts totalling £367 ■ls. 6d. were passed for payment. It was decided to engage the Carterton Baud lor the New Year’s meeting. One resignation was received. Dr. M. D. Price was elected a member and hon. surgeon of the club. The rose and sweet-pea show of the Carterton Horticultural Society was held yesterday, and proved very successful. The entiics were good and competition in many of the classes keen. The champion rose was a "Premier” variety, exhibited by Mrs. W. 11. Booth, of Middle Run, Carterton. The special prizes were won as follow: —Silver cup for cut blooms in open section, Mrs. Douglas Stewart, Featherston; silver cup for most points in vegetable classes, Mr. A. King, Carterton; silver cup -for most points in cut blooms, cottagers’ section, Mr. J. Candy, Masterton; silver cup for champion rose bloom, Dlr. Henry Booth, Carterton; points prize in decorative section, Mrs. A. Pink, Carterton; special for most points in collection of cut blooms, cottagers’ section, Mr. J. Candy, Masterton; points prize in home produce section, Mrs. R. Tankersley, Carterton; special for most points in children’s cooking, Gladvs Knowles, 1; Gladys Allen, 2; special for most points in children’s decorative classes, Diary Booth; champion pansy, Dlrs. Acharnweber, Dlasterton, . , Diembers of the Dlain Highways Board passed through the Wairarapa on Friday, when they were met by representatives of various Wairarapa bodies. The Wairarapa Automobile Association asked that a retrospective subsidy should be granted on expenditure by the association since 1921 in erecting road sign posts, and that no time should be lost in completing the improvement and surfacing of the Te Ore Ore Road. The Wairarapa South Countv Council discussed with the board the improvement of the main road between Carterton and Dlasterton, and sought an opinion upon the offer made recently by a company to undertake surfacing work. The Dlauriceville County Council submitted a request that the Dryer’s Rock Road should be declared a main highway.
