SOUTH AUSTRALIAN OIL WELLS
DECLARATION AS TO PRESENCE OF PETROLEUM. Melbourne, November 19. In connection with a statement made by the Diiector of Geological Survey in reference to the South Australian oil wells, the field superintendent, after consultation with the directors, has issued a < statement in which lie says: “In refutation of the reports recently circulated as to the absence of mineral oil in our bore at Caroline, J definitely state that I have proved the existence of crude petroleum in the bore. Its presence has been demonstrated to many people, including visiting directors; but for the unexpected intrusion of water in the bore we would before this have been producers of crude oil, probably on a commercial scale. This is my definite opinion as a petroleum engineer of many years’ experience.” He adds that his opinion is backed by two other well-known experts.
