Dominion Special: November 18. Dannevirke A. and P Association through its finance committee this morning accepted the tender of ]. Olsen for replacing a roof on the grandstand in the show grounds, which recently was torn off bodily in a gale. As a result of the garden party at the ‘hospital, that institution benefited by £BO, which is almost £2 more than last year’s receipts. A meeting of creditors iti the bankrupt estate of John Lewis, a farm lab-. I’ourer, of Coonoor, fell through this morning owing to the absence of all the creditors. The list of debts tot-
alled only £67. The biggest creditor was S. Braggner l(Pahiatua) to whom was owing £2o.“' Other creditors nil
being unsecured, were F. G. Bourke (Pahiatua) £VJ t „S. Ryan (Bketahuna) £lO, Wairarapa Farmers’ Co-op. Association, Ltd. £9,'P. Pike £6 and W. Eagle £3, all from Eketahuna. In his personal statement bankrupt stated that at the time he contracted the debts, over a year ago, he was earning £2OO a year, but rheumatism incurred as a result of war service had interfered with his work, and he had to give up the job, since when he had held sundry lower paid positions which only enabled him to pay living expenses, so that he could not pay off the back debts, while the continued illness of his wife had further impoverished him. die. , , , Playing at Pahiatua on Wednesday, for the Oxley Cup, two rinks of bowlers from Dannevirke were successful, bringing home the trophy, beating the home plavers in the number of heads won, though the rink games were even. This is the first tune the trophy has been competed for. Dannevirke bowlers were Messrs) Howarth, Lippitt, Chick and Greenwood (skip), and Register, Fitzjohn, Osborn, and Williams (skip), while the players _on Pabiatua’s side were Messrs. A. Bisset (skip), S. Bisset, Dr. Paterson (skip), Jennings, McSlierrv, B. Britland nnd J. A. Walsh (skip) . Mr and Mrs R. Knight (the former being the engineer to Dannevirke power Board), Mr and Mrs. T._ Moir and Miss Quiglev, are motoring in tlie Auckland district, having gone via Taupo and Rotorua for a holiday jaunt.
