SENSATIONAL ASSAULT
persistent old man STRIKES RELIEF OFFICER
Dominion Special. Auckland, November 19. A sensational incident occurred when an assault was committed on Herbert tones, chief relieving officer of the relief department of the Hospital Board at his office, which necessitated him getting medical attention and having to leave for his home through injuries he had received. A strong old man who had been the cause of a lot of trouble to the assistants in the office, was unusually persistent in his demands, and Air. Jones told him to leave the office. Air. Jones, who was wearing glasses, then turned to give attention to something else, when he was struck a violent blow in the eye, smashing the glass of the spectacles, which severely cut the flesh. Air. Tones was incapacitated from further work for the day. His assailant it is alleged, then turned his attention to Air." Newman, assistant inspector, but was soon controlled by a younger man, and was held until he was taken charge of bv the police Air. Jones was advised by a medical officer to-dav that he would have to rest completely for a few days on account of his injuries and shock. Kenneth McLeod, aged 7a, who committed the assault on Mr. Jones was, in the Magistrate’s Court, sentenced to seven days’ imprisonment.
