DISCHARGED PRISONERS
ASSISTANCE GIVEN IN WELLING-
The annual meeting of the piseharged Prisoners’ Aid Society was held yesterday, Mr. W. G. Riddell, S.M., presiding. The report stated that the majority year of the society’s operations had just closed, and it. was pleasing that the usefulness of the society had been "ell maintained. Donations had continued to increase, discharged prisoners and their families had received more liberaj assistance, and quite a number had responded to the sympathy shown them. The society had not yet leaclied a Mate of prodigality, but in the interests both of its clients and its subscribers that would hardly have been advisable. Nevertheless, the report stated, greater good could be done with a better filled exchequer. During the year 235 discharged prisoners had been assisted, 235 beds supplied, nnd 622 meals provided; 30 discharged prisoners had been helped with clothes, boots, nnd tools, J 4 with fores, while 50 had been found employment. In all, twenty families hail been assisted. On the motion of Mr. Riddell, a vole of thanks was passed to Air. I’. J. O’Regan for the work nnd time which he hod devoted in preparing the rules of the society, and in obtaining its incorporation and registration. The following officers were elected ior the ensuing year.- President, Sir Robert Stout; vice-president, Mr. W. G. Riddell, S.M.; secretary-treasurer, Air. T. P. Afills; committee, Messrs. D. C. Bates, E. Page, S.M., and T. Salek; honorary solicitor, Mr. P. J. O’Regan; honorary auditor, Air. F. W. Hart.
