CARNIVAL AND TUG-OF-WAR

The numerous patrons of the carnival and tug-of-wnr contest at St. Francis’ Hall, Hill Street, last night appreciated the excellent programme arranged. The tug-of-war excited the greatest interest, the audience applauding vigorously for their favourites. Toohill’s team overcame Dealey’s team by 12 inches, after a good pull; and Meeeh’s team defeated the Nomads team by six inches. The military manoeuvres, specially arranged by Mr. Joe Knowsley. provided much entertainment. while the various games and sideshows were well patronised. The carnival will last till November 29. There will be a special matinee this afternoon.
