Mr. and Mrs. W. Watson, Wellington, are staying with Mrs. J. Watson, St. Stephen’s Avenue, Parnell, Auckland.
■ Mrs. Mathew Holmes is shortly going on a visit to Hawke’s Bay.
Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Day have gone to Auckland and are staying at Castlebar, Khyber Pass. Miss Noeline Bevan has returned from a holiday visit to Nelson. The garden circle of the Pioneer Club will hold its annual flower show in the clubrooms on Tuesday next at 2.30 p.m. Brooklyn Company Senior Cadets held their first social and dance in the St. Matthew’s Hall, on Thursday evening last. The hall was tastefully decorated, and a large crowd danced with zest from 8 till midnight. A pleasing feature .of the night was the attendance of a number of sailors off H.M.S. Dunedin aud H.M.S. Diomede. Mr. Claude Sander's orchestra rendered excellent music, and items were given by Mr. Miller, and Mr. N. Sauder, both being greatly appreciated. Captain Bruce, Assistant Area Officer, was present, and spoke of the usefulness of these gatherings to the cadets, when the lads learnt of the other side to military training, and mixed together with true team spirit, and tied the bonds of comradeship true and strong. A balloon dance, Cinderella waltz, monte-carlo, etc., were a few of the novelty dances during the evening, and all entered into them with much zest. The company heartily thanked Mesdames Miller, Wright, Thompson, O’Sullivan, Tunks, Cook, Hoffeins, Mr. Miller, and tbe number of young ladies who attended to supper arrangements. The master of ceremonies was Mr. H. R. Wright. Major Miles, the 4th Cadet Battalion Commander, • was also present. Mrs. Slattery, vice-president of the Berhanipore branch of the Women’s National Reserve, was hostess on the occasion of the annual meeting, on Thursday afternoon, when an enjoyable time was spent. The musical progiamme consisted of songs by Mr. Slattery and Mrs. _ Stark, and three monologues bv Miss 6 Fagan. Mrs. Beales (president) presided over a large attendance of enthusiastic workers. Mrs. Sutherland (secretary) read the annual report and balancesheet, which were highly satisfactory, the sum of £llO 10s. lid. being raised for the year. Mrs. I’eules was re-elected president. Hearty appreciation of her work was voiced by a number of those present. Mrs. Sutherland was re-elected secretary, a high tribute being paid her for her businesslike and thorough methods, as well as her tireless energy. The following were re-elected:—Vice-presi-dents', Mesdames P. C. Watt, Avery, and Slattery, with the following committee : Mesdames Georgeson, Chatfield, Saunders. Janson, Starkey, Williamson, Garnhara, and Moore. A special plea was made for the sale which is being held by the W.N.R. Girls’ Chib, for raising money for the marble steps at the Memorial Cemetery. Any gifts will be gladly received by Miss Black, Willis Street. \ dainty afternoon tea was much enjoved bv all present. Mrs. Slattery was presented with a bouquet of roses bv the committee. A heartv vote of thanks was accorded Fir. Baillie for his invaluable help.
