SIZE OF DOCK London, November 17. The “Daily News” says that the Singapore Dock will be designed to lift the largest warship afloat. It is likely to be built in the near future, and will probably approach the. size of the huge dock at Southampton, which is 960 feet long, 170 feet wide, 70 feet high, and - lifts a vessel of 60,000 tons displacement.—Sydney “Sun" Cable. PRESS CRITICISMS OF SCHEME ■ • London, November 17. Opposition newspapers criticise the Singapore scheme. ' •’.The “Gazette” says: “The British taxpayers are entitled to know what part of the bill Australia and New Zealand are footing for this costly insurance, which Australia could better secure with a base at Svdney.” The “Star” calls the Base a Jingo monstrosity. “If 'White Australia, needs such a base,” says the “Star,” “Australia should build it on Australian soil, and par the cost.”
