RADIO SOCIETY
SEVERAL BROADCASTING COMPLAINTS.
A general meeting of the /Amateur Radio Society of Wellington was held last night in the Dominibti Farmers’ Institute. Mr. J. K. Owen (president) occupied the chair. A letter was received from the Post-master-General, stating that he hoped to make an announcement at an early date with regard to a new high-power broadcast station at Wellington.
The honorary secretary was instructed to write to the Minister conveying the desire of the society and the urgent need that he exercise his right to call Upon the Broadcasting Company to erect and operate an up-to-date broadcast station in the Wellington district similar to those in Auckland and in Christchurch within six months, as stipulated in the agreement between the Government and the company.
A motion was passed instructing the honorary secretary to bring under the notice of the Postmaster-General the desirabilitv of shortening the wavelengths of the New Zealand broadcast stations SO that interference from ship spark transmission will be greatly reduced, and to allot new wavelengths so that the New Zealand broadcast stations will not interfere with reception of the Australian stations. It was further decided to lodge a complaint with the Postmaster-General concerning the marked distortion of the transmission by the Christchurch broadcast station as heard in Wellington, and similar, but less frequent, lapses bv the Auckland station, and the frequent fading by the latter. The Minister will also be advised of the poorness in the qualitv of the transmission by the Wellington station, which was utterly condemned by several speakers. A complaint bv a member residing in Kelburn regarding interference from a local electrital source formed the subject of a resolution requesting the honorary secretary to communicate with the manager of the company concerned with a view to having the trouble remedied >. Messrs. L. Gronhand'and T. Megami tendered their resignations as honorarv secretary and honorary treasurer, respectively, as owing to a change in their occupations thev had become ineligible for the position. The resignations were accepted with great regret. Messrs. R. L. Jones nnd W. J. Roche were iinianmouslv elected to fill the vacancies. Several new members were enrolled, after which an interesting demonstration of broadcast reception on a most compact six-valve set was given by Mr. E. Todd. A heartv vote of thanks was-accorded the demonstrator.
