HELLIER WINS HAMILTONAUCKLAND FIXTURE BY TELEGRAPH.-PUCS3 Assoc:.'TlOX Auckland, November 18. The 100 miles cycling road race, from Hamilton to Auckland, resulted :— C. llellier (New Plymouth), handicap 30min., actual time, shr. 42min. 30 4-ssec 1 C. H. Jennings (Palmerston North), 30h rs., snir. 48iniu. 35 3-ssec 2 A. C. Taylor (Auckland), 30min., shr. - 48min. 52sec , 3 A. Sutherland (Auckland), 12min, shr. iOniin., 4, and fastest time. J. Henderson (Auckland), handicap 15inin., was fifth, and R. Healey, handicap 70min., fl There were twenty-six starters, the scratch men, S. McCann (New Plymouth! and R. Lnsky (Christchurch) forfeiting the engagement. Other scratchings left Sutherland, on 12min„ scratch man. The weather was fine, and the roads in good order, with n few bad patches Helfer. Jennings, and lavlor. all on the same mark, kept together practically throughout, overhauling the limit men in the last thirty miles. Hellier drew awav to win by about six minutes from Jennings, with Taylor close behind third. Theie were several punctures •‘INCIDENTS NEED TNVESTIGAi TION.” Later. An official statement to-night gives Hellier the fastest time, shr. 42mm. 30 2-ssec J- Harcourt is placed fourth and Sutherland fifth, the lastnamed’s time being given as Chr. 2mm. 35 l-ssec. The starter, ‘Mr. G. Sutherland, said that the prize money would not be awarded until the officials were satisfied that all riding conditions bad been observed bv the competitors. He said it had been alleged that some 'f the cvclists were towed by motor-cars at certain points and that there were other incidents which needed investigation. He was passing Whangarata in an official car when a lesident informed him that some -iders bad been towed past behind a motor-car; He himself had seen one rider step from -a car and ride away -when an official car approached.
