PASSENGER TRANSPORT SERVICE
APPLICATION FOR DOMINION AWARD. A Conciliation Council meeting was held to-day to consider the claims ot all classes of workers employed in connection with the various methods of passenger transport services in vogue in the Dominion, embracing taxicabs, usually ewaged in the various towns; bus services, running from the principal centres of population to adjacent suburbs, and long distance service, and other cars used to traerse, in some cases, hundreds ° f The l< ciaims of the workers included wages, hours of employment, payment of overtime, preference of employment, and tlie usual conditions appertaining this B 'was the first occasion upon which the working conditions of this particular industry were considered from a Dominion point of view, the work of the council was of a most difficult nature, and a very, strong endeavour is bein’ made bv the parties concerned to arrange a settlement of the dispute upon a basis that will afford the workers rea. Honable remuneration for their work, and fair conditions of employment while at tho same time care is being taken that tho general interests of the various companies and employers will bo safeguarde<Onlv a portion of the dispute is being considered in Wellington, viz., that of the long distance service cars, lhe other section dealing with taxis and suburban traffic omnibuses will be dealt with at Auckland. . , . , .
