CITY COUNCIL DECISIONS

A special meeting of the City Council held yesterday was presided over by Councillor R. A. Wright, in the absence of the Mayor (Mr. C. J. B. Norwood), who is at present on a business visit to Auckland. The formal business put through was as follows:— Confirmation of resolution . passed at a special meeting of the council on -October 21, 192 G, authorising surrender of existing lease of sections 71, 75, and part 65a ' Lambton Reclamation, and grant of new lease in lieu thereof. Confirmation of resolution passed at a special meeting of the council on October 21, 1926, authorising surrender of existing tease of sections 72, 73, 76, and 77 Lambton Reclamation, and grant of new lease in lien thereof. Pass resolution lby way of special order) authorising the raising of the Wellington City (Karori and Onslow district) drainage completion loan, 1923, of £36.100. . Pass resolution (by wav of special order) authorising the raising of the Wellington Citv unemployment loan, 1926, of £12,000. Respecting the last-mentioned matter, Councillor H. D. Bennett asked the Acting-Mayor if he knew how it was that the £lO,OOO unemployment loan had become £12,000. This loan had alwavs been referred to as of £lO.OOO.

After making inquiries, Mr. Wright stated that the extra £2OOO was to complete the unemployed works in hand. The Prime Minister had agreed to the extra amount It i • understood that the extra money is reonired for the completion of Hornsey Road, Melrose.

Mr. Hugh Friendlander announces that he has resigned his position as chairman of directors of New Zeehan Consolidated Ltd.

Reference was made at the annual meeting of the Wellington branch of the New Zealand Institute of Architects last night to the death <~f Mr. E. J Greenstreet, of Christchurch, who was characterised by the chairman (.Mr. S W. Fearn) as one of the institute’s most highly respected, esteemed and popular members Members stood for a few moments as a mark cf respect to their late colleague.
