FIRE IN TARANAKI STREET An outbreak of ■:fire occurring, at 12.45 yesterday morning in Taranaki Street," would "have had serious consequences but for the good work of the brigade. The lire had its origin in 08, Taranaki'- Street, a wood and iron twostoried building, used as a. workshop bv Reynard and Turner, cabinet-mak-ers, and owned bv Dr. J. S.. Elliott. The contents on the first floor were severely damaged by fire and • water, and damage was also done to the contents on the ground floor by. water. Reyndrd and Turner’s contents and machinery are insured for £635 in the Northern Union Office, and the building in the same office for £3OO. The tontents of a room on the . first. floor, occupied l}v I". Cooper, plumber, were slightly damaged by water, and are uninsured. » The flames also spread to 86, '1 aranaki Street, a wood and iron'two-storied building,’ occupied by . Aldwih Hurtell Beck, carpenter, and. owned by .Mrs. James, 1.0, Levy Street. Beck’s stock, which is covered bv a policy in the Sun office for £loo,'was silghtly damaged bv water. Another tenant, William George Clark, confectioner, , on the ground floor, had his stock, insured in the Sun office for £l5O damaged bv smoke and water The insurances on the building are not available. Another building was also concerned ill the outbreak, a .wood and iron twostoried building at 16 Ghuznee Street, which was owned and occupned by W. j.' Staples and Co The damage here was not’ great, however, it room at the rear on the first floor, together with its contents/ being slightly damaged by fire and water. This building is insured in the Standard office for £llOO, while the contents and machinery are covered to the extent of £6130 in the Queensland, South British, and Sun offices. AUCKLAND INSURANCES.
