Tho honesty of the Chinese is considered almost incorruptible by a retired policeman who lives in Wanganui (says nn exchange). Tie relates the case of- a Chinese who borrowed <£s to pay a fine and save himself from gaol. Penniless and disgraced, he was driven to desperation and ultimate suicide. But before he slipped a fatal noose about his neck he spent several days in strenuous toil. This earned him .£5, with which he repaid the loan before ending his existence.
