CONTRACTS AIAY PROVE .TIEAPER Dominion Special. Dunedin, November 17. _ The Dunedin City Council to-night discussed the new drivers’ award which, it was claimed, would entail an increase in expenditure of £620 per. annum. The Public -Works Committee objected to the council having to pay higher wages than private employers aiid suggested that the question of contract work be considered Councillors agreed that it must come to a. question of contracts, and the opinion was expressed that the sooner that happened the better. It was decided that tlie contract system be thoroughly investigated with a view to its adoption.
