The Westport' Borough Council tonight decided to ask the Government to appoint a resident marine engineer io Westport ’ owing to the amount ot piutective work now necessary to control the Buller River and port the council being of opinion that thousands oi pounds annually would .be saved to the Dominion if aii engineer were in eharee to watch tho many changes taking place in the rivei. It was also decided to ask the. Gtvernment to approve of the appointment ot at least one local residept. to the Advisory Board controlling the port, to represent the Buller district, on that body as at present tho community is unaware what, is being done in the matter of improving the port generally, such- local representative to be elected by representatives of the district. '
