IMPERIAL TRADE
COUNTERPOISE TO FOREIGN COMBINES EMPIRE REGARDED AS ECONOMIC UNIT BY Telegraph.—Press Association. Copyright. (Rec. November 16, 5.5 p.m.) London, November 16. Sir Allred Mond contributed to the Press during the week-end a striking article on Empire Trade, in which he argued as a counterpoise to the International Trade Combines in Europe on the one hand and the United States’ enormous economic resources on the other hand, that it was most imperative that the Empire should be regarded as an economic unit. He advocated the immediate consideration of. possible steps towards Empire Free Trade by an Imperial Tariff Commission. Sir Alfred Mond’s article gives added significance to the fact that he to-night privately had dinner with the Imperial Conference delegates. The company included the Earl of Reading, Viscount Inchcape, Lord Ashfield, I-ord Colwyn, Lord Kylsant, Sir Robert Hadfield, Sir Frederick Lewis, Sir Harry McGowan, Sir Josiah Stamp, Sir William. Berry, and Sir Robert Kindersley, all important men in the world of commerce, shipping, and banking.
