REV. R. WOOD’S CASE
MODERATOR GIVES RULING The Moderator of the Presbyterian General Assembly gave his ruling yesterday in connection with a proposed notice of motion regarding the case of the Rev. Robert Wood. It was pointed out that the matter had already been considered by a committee, and a commission, the final decision being that fhe report of the commission be received. Continuing, the Moderator said: “It seems to me that when the Assembly delegates its authority to a commission it has not the right to insist that a full account of that body’s doings should be presented to the Assembly. If this matter is to come again before the Assembly it must come through ’ fresh machinery. It is open to Mr. Wood to petition the presbytery, and it can then go on, under the ordinary procedure, from the presbytery to the Assembly. After setting up two tribunals, to take them to task two years later, in the way the notice of motion would suggest, would create a precedent that would make for difficulty. For this reason I do not think ’ this motion should come before the Assembly.” (Applause).
