SCHOOL SYLLABUS
WORK OF REVISION COMMITTEE APPOINTED The expected announcement concerning the appointment by the Education Department of a committee of specialist teachers and administrative officers to revise the primary school curriculum was made yesterday. Investigations extending over several months will be made with a view to such changes being effected in the programme of work for standards V. and VI., and for the first two years of the secondary school courses as will secure proper correlation. It is proposed to call the committee together before the end of the year, in order that the members may have a preliminary discussion, and set up sub-com-mittees to deal with different parts of the syllabus. Early in the New Year the committee will meet again to discuss the finding of the sub-commit-tees, and possibly to make some progress with the preparation of the report. The following have been invited to act as members of the committee: —
Mr. B. N. T. Blake (headmaster of the Thorndon Normal School), Miss Carnachan (primary school teacher of Auckland, and a member of the Council of Education), and Miss Kennedy (Auckland Normal School) to represent the primary school teachers. Professor Lawson (Professor of Education at Otago University), to represent the training colleges. Dr. J. \V. Mcllraith (senior inspector at Napier) and Mr M. McLeod (senior inspector at Christchurch) to represent the inspectors of schools; Mr. \V. Thomas (principal of the Tiniaru Boys’ High School) to represent the secondary schools; Mr. A Marshall (late head of the Technical College at Dunedin), to represent the technical schools; Mr. T. U. Wells (a member of the Auckland . Education Board, and formerly a headmaster at Auckland), to represent the education boards; Mr. W. Dinwiddie (of Napier), to represent the school committees
