POLICE AND CIVIL CASES
Messrs. G. Anyon and I. Salek, J.P-. S > dealt with the police cases in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday. Peter Butler, alias Chiiwey, a labourer (aged 51), who admitted the theft, oi a pair of boots valued at £1 2s. Gd-u property of the Economic Shoe Store, was sentenced to one month’s imprisonment with hard labour. Chief-Detective Ward stated that accused was at P*esent undergoing a term of lourteen days imprisonment for the theft of another pair of boots last Thursday. William Hopkins (aged 34), who pleaded guilty before Mr. E. Page, S.M., to a charge of attempting to .-oinmit suicide by cutting an artery in Lis wrist on October 31. was convicted tml ordered to come up for sentence when .■ailed upon within twelve months. Accused, who stated I hat he had been i l inking very heavily about the time he tried to take his- life, was also erdered to pay the sum of £8 15s. for medical expenses incurred during his ’lay in hospital.
