DEMONSTRATION OF TANKS
MR. COATES’S VIEWS ON IT VALUE OF EXPERIMENTS FOR CIVIL PURPOSES By Telegraph.—Press Association. Copyright. London, November 14. Mr. Coates, interviewed by the Australian Press Association, said that the tank demonstration at Camberley showed not only a striking development in military mechamcalisatiou, but the value of mechanical transport tor civil purposes. The military tanks and tractors exhibited might be valuably adapted to the development of works in new countries. Instead of having to con-, struct expensive roads ahead oi the railway, material for hydro-electric aud irrigation works could be conveyed to the site of operations immediately by the new method of motor transport. The army’s experiments in mechanical transport were thus most important to the whole Empire for commercial as well as for war purposes.
