TWO LOAN PROPOSALS

PALMERSTON SEWERAGE EXTENSION

Palmerston North, November 15. At to-night’s meeting of the Borough Council, the Works Committee reported that it had decided to place two loan proposals before the ratepayers for the purpose of extending the sewerage svstem where necessary, for sums of £15,000 and £25,000 respectively. Councillor M. A. Elliott said that he objected to the proposed raising of an additional £lO,OOO, because it was admitted that the sewerage work would not require to be undertaken for many years This being so, why was it necessary to obtain authority to raise this amount so long beforehand? Councillor M. H Oram pointed out that there was no saying in which quarter the borough would extend in eight or ten vears, so that by securing the full sum new the ratepavers would be accorded fair and adequate treatment. “I. think the reason whv we have been losing money in Palmerston is because we do not look far enough ahead,” said Councillor J A. McLeavev in supporting the raising of the full sum proposed. ~,,,, The recommendation of the Works Committee was adopted.
