ART OF SWIMMING
TEACHING THE SCHOOL CHILDREN
Recognising the great importance of teaching swimming to the young scholars of the schools, the Island Bay Lue Saving and Surf Club commenced with a class of about twenty girls and boys from the Island Bay School on Saturday Inst, and despite the weather conditions the scholars started on their training with enthusiasm, lhe children gathered in tho clubroom and were given instructions in the art of swimming and life saving bv the club captain (Mr D Hunter) and dub sice-captain (Mr. A. P. Anvon). When the children entered the water each child was accompanied bv a member <f tho Hub, so that they started with every confidence os to (heir safety. Two medals have been presented by a wellwisher to be given to the girl and boy that show improvement by the end of the season It is the intuition of the elub lo endeavour to get every hild attending the school to ’earn to swim, fullv recognisin'-’ the alarming number of drowning cases there are in New Zealand
