PETONE BOROUGH COUNCIL
A meeting of the Pctone Borough Council was held last ..ight end was attended by the Deputy-Mayor (Mr. G. Cook) and Councillors A.. Scholefield, E. N. Campbell, W. H. Edwards, 11, Jay, V. Jacobson and J. W. Sharpe. The town clerk, Lower Hutt, forwarded a copv of a letter of protest by His Worship'the Mayor of Lower Hutt re the method of considering t pplienti ms for bus licenses'. The council expressed itself in favour of endorsing the Lower Hutt protest, and also expressed dissatisfaction with the method of granting licenses. . » Mr. H. Ingram wrote stating that, he Ihad obtained permission last July to run two buses and he had ordered lhese to lie made. The Motor Omnibus Traffic Act, 1926, had since been passed, and i on application for licenses thereunder he had been refused these on October 28 last. He asked if the council would support his application. The granting of the application was favoured by the majority’ of the council. A deputation was received from the Petone Athletic Club, with reference to the cycle track on the Petone Oval. Speakers pointed out that the time was opportune for the laying down of a bitumen or asphalt (rack, the present grass one being not only unsatisfactory but dangerous. The council also heard a deputation from the Rugby League, requesting permission to plough and sow the Petone ground, and also to prohibit the public from crossing it while it is so laid out.
