WORKING MEN’S CLUB v. SOUTH WELLINGTON

The twentieth annual match between the above clubs was played in the rooms of the Working Men’s Club on Monday of last week, and ended in a tie, as follow:

The South Wellington Club made the better score at the first six boards (4 2), thereby gaining a point in the senior team’s tourney of the Wellington Chess league. Each club gets half a pom for the league’s jnpior team s contest, the score at the next six boards (7 to linclusive) being 3-all. Of the 20 matches played to date Working Men’s Club has won 11, South Wellington has won 6, and three have ended in a tie. At tho conclusion of last week’s match Mr. G. P. Anderson returned thanks for the kind welcome of the Working Mens Club president (Mr. A. E. Ballard), and also for the hospitality extended to the South Wellington team. WELLINGTON C.C. v. NGAIO C.C. The annual match between these clubs was played at Ngaio on Tuesday last, when the visitors were very happily welcomed by Mr. F. J. Brooker, the local president. The older club won comfoitably, ns follows:

The Wellington Club scored a point in the senior and also in the junior team’s tourney of the Wellington Chess League. Mr. G. A. Jones (Ngaio) was unable to attend, and Mr. Wigham thus scored a win by default. Mr. Wighain also won a arranored gawo asrainsh F. K. Kellinv. who is a life member of the Ngaio Chess Club. At the conclusion of the contest Mr. Wighain voiced the thanks of the city plovers for the Nsaio Club’s generous hospitality. The evening was greatly enjoyed by both teams.
