WANGANUI NOTES
Dominion Special. _ Wanganui, November 12. Approximately about 8000 people passed through . the turnstiles at the Show yesterday, which sets a new record mark in the attendance figures. The takings for the two days were between £550 and £6OO, a figure which was exceeded on one occasion during the war, but is better than last year or any of the years immediately preceding it. Dr. Elizabeth Gunn and a number of primary school pupils left by train this morning for the health camp at Turakina. The arrangements for the camp are most complete, and Mr. B. P. Lethbridge has made a number of improvements that will add to the comfort of the children.
Mr. Harrison Cook, who is producing' "Our Miss Gibbs” for the Wanganui Musical and Dramatic Society left for Wellington todayo. Mr. Cook Was tendered a complimentary dance by members of the society last evening at the conclusion of the performance of the musical comedy. The performing members expressed their appreciation of Mr. Cook by the gift of a set of silver teaspoons, Mr. Louis Cohen, president of the society, making the presentation, and also himself giving Sir. Cook a pipe and case. Mr. Louis Cohen, of Wanganui, has been appointed chairman of ’the committee which is to make the final selection, of Miss New Zealand in the contest organised by certain Dominion newspapers. The Rose Show this afternoon was largely atended. Unfortunately.' the recent severe frost cut off a large number o/f buds, so that entries .suffered in consequence. The jubilee of the society will be held in 1928. ■
