PAHIATUA NOTES
Pahiatua, November 12.
The members of the Anglican Choir held a most successful euchre tournament and dance last night. The large crowd present thoroughly enjoyed itself. In the play-off for the gentleman’s prize in the cards competition, Mr. F. P. Duffy beat Mr. W. A. Cittadilii, while Mrs. E. Brady was successful in the ladies’ section! uTer a tie with Miss Curtis. Mrs Brady also annexed the special prize, a bag of sugar. The consolation awards went to Miss K. Dick and Mr. J. W. Thojnpson. The beans throwing competitions were won by Mrs. W. 11. Purdie and Mr. S. Matthews, the latter player establishing a record byobtaining the maximum. After dainty refreshments were handed around, tire hall was cleared for dancing, Mrs. I. M. Graham supplying the music. Mr. A. W. Hamilton in an able manner controlled the proceedings. The following handicaps for the senior section have been declared by the selector and handicapper of the Pahiatiia Bowling Club (Mr. T. F. Hewat); P. A. Bisset, F. Burrell. A. W. Bisset, IV. Britland, F. Britland, T. F. Hewat, J. Hughes, E. Harrison, H. Paterson, J. Prentice, W. S. Ransom; J. A. Walsh, sen; G. W. Chatwin, J, G. Chambers, C. Jennings, H. Mi-Sherry, J- Sinclair, 2 points. A very exciting match was played yesterday. The teams were Prentice, Chambers. Hewat, A. W. Bisset (s.), Harrison, Stewart. Ransom, Walsh (s.). It was a very even match, and the result was in doubt until the last head was played, the former team eventuallywinning bv one point. The final scores were 21—2(1. The green was in excellent condition, due in a great measure to the care and vigilance of the green supervisor (Mr. A. Barrell). . ~ The business people met yesterday at ternoon and decided to hold a ' Shopping and Carnival Week” in January. Mr. J. A. Walsh was appointed organiser.
Mr. J. J- Franklyn, evangelist, will conduct the services at Campbell Street Church of Christ, Palmerston North, at If a.m. and 7 p.m, to-morrow. The Bible school will meet at 2.30, a song service will commence nt 6.45,-and devotional at 7.30 p.m. on Tuesday.
