Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Lawry, Christchurch, are spending a short- holiday in Wellington.
Carnivjil nights at St. Francis Hall, Hill ‘Street, have, been accorded no small measure of popularity. The final carnival night of the season will be held on Monday, when it is hoped to eclipse all previous records. There will be novelties of all descriptions. A cabaret supper will be provided.
Monday night will see the opening of a special week at the Adelphi Cabaret, when the programme submitted will, it is believed, be a real cabaret entertainment, such as that provided in large cities all over the world. Nothing of this kind has previously been attempted in Wellington. There will be performances by Mr. Sam Stern and exhibition dances, Eastern ballets, etc., arranged by Miss Margaret O’Cqnnor. Oriental decorations and unique lighting effects will add to the attractiveness of the scene.
The annual inspection of the Wellington South Nursing Division St. John Ambulance was held on Tuesday in the Masonic Hall, Donald McLean Street, Mrs. Preston presiding. Major Vine, assistant-commissioner, and Dr. Platts-Mills, lady district superintendent, conducted the inspection. Dr. Luke was introduced to members on his appointment as divisional surgeon. Mr. E. Vine, Dr. Platts-Mills, Mr. Richardson, corps superintendent, congratulated members on their success at the recent competitions. A motion of sympathy with the Wanganui Corps on the death of their lady corps superintendent, Mrs. Tawse, was passed. The annual meeting to close the year will be held on November 23.
Mr. Thompson, the master in charge of the Native school in Suva, would be very glad of used magazines, periodicals, etc., with the idea of not only interesting the pupils but of helping them with their study- of English. Mrs. C. W. Earle, 20 Upland Road, will make herself responsible for packing and forwarding of any such that may be sent to her house'or left addressed to her at the office of The Dominion.

Mr. and Mrs. Charles F. Wilton, well known residents of Masterton, celebrated their golden wedding on Tuesday, having been married at the, residence of the bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. Matthews, Masterton, on November 9, IS7G, the Rev. J. McKeen being the officiating clergyman. '1 lie members of Mr. and Mrs. Wilton’s family assembled at the residence of Mrs. R. Harris, Opaki Road, to celebrate tlie anniversary. A feature of the gathering was the presence qf the lady and gentleman who attended the wedding as bridesmaid and best man, respectively. Mr. and Mrs. Wilton were recipients of many congratulations anad good wishes for their future welfare.

Alexandra Home. At the monthly meeting of the Alexandra Home committee there were present: Mesdames Corkill (in the chair), Tripe, McVicar, Hempton, Gill, Hardwick Smith, Kemp, Underwood, Cox, Phillip Turner, and Misses Fraser and Low. The matron reported that there were 28 adults and 16 infants in the home, and that there had been 21 confinements, and six district cases had been attended.
