Mrs. C. W. Earle, who has recently returned from a visit to Vancouver, was much impressed by the magnificence of the hotels there, and in those towns of U.S.A, which she visited. The leading hotels are equipped with all sorts of arrangements for the comfort and ease of travellers, such as hair-dressing rooms, massage, manicure, and other toilet helps, as well as every imaginable device for refreshing and caring for patrons’ clothes. A unique party, given at the Empress in Vancouver for a number of visiting American Senators was a bathing dance-dinner party. In the central court is a huge swimming pool with a dancing floor adjacent. The guests wore, and danced in, extremely smart and pretty bathing dress, and then went swimming, after which they donned ordinary evening dress, dined, and danced again.
The committee of the Frances Keith Payne memorial fund state that the memorial tablet to be erected to the memory of the late Miss Payne, for - many years matron of Wellington Hospital, will be unveiled at St. Mark’s Church on November 28, says “Kai Tiaki.” A second tablet will also be uuveiled in the Wellington Hospital, the date of which will be advertised. The committee regret to state that the sum subscribed did not reach the amount required to establish a bursary for the diploma of nursing (£5OO was required). ' After the expenses of the memorial tablets have been defrayed there will be about £l2O or £l3O in : hand, and the 1 subscribers arc now in- i vited to submit suggestions for the best use to which this money can be put to, to perpetuate the memory of i the late Dliss Payne. One proposal 1 is that a medal; should be struck call- . ed the Frances Keith Pavnc medal, for (1) the nurse who passes top in the final Wellington Hospital examination, or the best all-round nurse dur- I ing her training; (2) for the nurse who passes top in the State examin- I ation for all New Zealand. Another | suggestion is that the prize need not necessarily be a medal, but some useful article which would be valued by the winner. The prize might take the form of a silver tray with a suitable inscription.

The useful and fashionable little lace gown at Dliss Samson’s - (Customhouse Quay) is very alluring when fashioned of deep biege lace and georgette with pleats in the skirt, long sleeves and loosely tied bows at waist and neck. A summery gown of red and white printed georgette has a becoming jabit-finished neck line and much flared skirt. A really wonderful little two-piece costume has the skirt in tiers and the waist line at the back features the pouched effect which, by the way, is part of the new silhouette. The coat is of gaily embroidered georgette with trimming and sleeves of the plain fabric.—Adva.
Miss Betty Donald, who has been on the staff of Bowen Street Hospital, has been appointed a sister at New Plymouth Hospital.
